Grounding (also known as Earthing) refers to contact with the Earth’s surface electrons through standing or walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems. Grounding can be very impactful to all aspects of health and can decrease inflammation, increase immune function and improve mood. We prefer simple practices such as standing or walking on the bare earth, or sitting outdoors with your feet planted in the grass. Grounding this way is also aligned to other studied natural modalities, such as “forest bathing or shinrin-yoku”, a Japanese practice proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing.

Our Feet Chakra are innervated receptor sites  for receiving Earth Energy and for grounding our own energy field. The sole of each foot is covered with a staggering one-thousand nerve endings per square inch. Our bare feet can experience the energy from the earth’s biofield through these nerve endings in a way that is similar to how plant roots receive nourishment from the soil. And since we are increasingly exposed to EMF and WiFi technology, this simple practice can also help the body find homeostasis, where we are living in harmony with a more natural environment.

Grounding Practice and Meditation: To maximize your grounding session, time your session for early morning to set your circadian cycle (helps with melatonin production later), or around solar noon (can be found in D-Minder App, this time of day is associated with maximum exposure for Vitamin D). Bring hydration and dress comfortably.

Ground your body by firmly planting your feet beneath you. To facilitate deeper somatic awareness, name the experience by describing the sensations. Feel the imprint of each foot  in the sand, grass or earth beneath your feet. Is the ground cool or warm, soft or hard? Recall the feeling of running barefoot as a child through fields of grass. Stretch your toes and wiggle your feet. Remind yourself that this connection is a birthright. If you feel restless, allow that experience to exist and see if it shifts. Regardless of our awareness, this practice will aid in resetting biological functions while also helping to remove dissonant energy from WIFI/ EMF, etc., The time we set aside for grounding is also an opportunity to focus on nasal breathing and elongating your exhales. When you are finished with your grounding, notice how you feel. Are you more focused, grounded, relaxed? And please share your experience with us too in the comments below. Is this something you are doing currently, or something you will commit to trying soon?
